19th April 2013Digging for victory and HRH
Posted by Jacqui VearAs a champion of sustainable approaches to doing business, the team naturally got on board with an ambitious project led by the Woodland Trust, to plant 6 million trees to commemorate HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
The UK has only 13% woodland cover, one of the lowest percentages in Europe, but organisations and individuals across the UK certainly responded to this challenge. HRH The Princess Royal recently planted the 6 millionth tree, the final milestone in the charity’s biggest ever tree planting project. Nationwide over 12,000 hectares of trees have now been planted, creating vital new habitat for wildlife and a lasting legacy for generations to come.
We’ve played our part in this achievement by donating trees to the Caistor Orchard, Caistor Primary School’s Science and Nature Club, as well as customers and staff. This will give the team something else to talk about when they go to Buckingham Palace in July to be part of the prestigious Coronation Festival!
So, congratulations to the Woodland Trust and everyone else involved in this amazing project.

Red Nose Day 2013, doing something funny for money
Posted by Jacqui VearDressing up whilst at work should be part of the job description for our team! You will have no doubt heard about the reputed Systematic Calendar (which sees the team recreating iconic television shows for 2013), all possible due to wardrobes worthy of any pantomime and the creative genius of Systematics’ in-house Studio.
As a business that likes to make a positive contribution to our community, at a local level and beyond, the opportunity to do something funny for money was certain to see the team respond.
We relied on the support of PAMS, one of our valued clients, to secure red head-gear for Red Nose Day 2013. PAMS are one of the UK’s leading importers and wholesalers of fancy dress costumes and party supplies, another business that is doing great things in Lincolnshire.
With costumes and cakes on the agenda for the team, and Systematic matching all donations received, more much needed money will go towards the worthy causes that Comic Relief supports. Ensure that you do your bit too, click here to donate!

And although time flies, as a family business we will always have a close affinity with people that make the brave and rewarding decision to start a business.
We were delighted to be asked by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce to share our expertise at the recent Business Start-Up Event 2013. We gave 70 local people our take on how to make first impressions count, by sharing ‘10 things not to do in the interests of marketing your business’. This is the sort of guidance that we will willingly give to any local business, as we are proud to be associated with the success of other firms. A sign of things to come
Posted by Jacqui VearWe are delighted to work with Newman University in Birmingham and were proud to contribute to their recent celebrations as they were awarded full University status.
The creative minds within the Marketing Team at Newman enlisted our support to quickly produce some large format ‘flash boards’ with handles, to create a high impact jigsaw as the all-important announcement was made to an assembled crowd. Visit You Tube to see the grand unveiling.
Well done Newman for your achievement and for thinking of such an innovative way to break the news. As for us, we relish the challenge of innovative print projects!

Systematic to be part of Coronation Festival
Posted by Jacqui VearThe Gardens at Buckingham Palace will host a one-off event in July for holders of Royal Warrants, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Queen's Coronation. We are delighted to be taking part in this four day celebration!
The Coronation Festival will showcase the brands that have earned the recognition of a Royal Warrant, the best of food and drink, design and technology, homes and gardens as well as British style, pursuits and pastimes. Systematic Print Management was awarded its Royal Warrant in January 2008 and we have taken the prestigious opportunity to join over 200 Royal Warrant Holders at this unique event.
The Festival will be open to members of the public from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th July, with a Royal Preview on Thursday 11th. In addition, on Friday and Saturday evenings Buckingham Palace will be the back-drop to The Coronation Gala, a magnificent performance of music and dance.
60,000 visitors will be attending the Coronation Festival. If you would like to be one of them, a limited number of tickets remain available to the general public.
For further information and to book tickets, go to www.coronationfestival.com or call 0844 858 9071.

An event-full start to 2013
Posted by Jacqui VearIf you’ve had a day or two out of the office this month, with a combination of walking boots, thermals and business cards, chances are you joined us for the LAMMA event at Newark Showground on 16th and 17th January! We were delighted to be part of the UKs leading farm machinery, equipment and service show. We are also feeling rather smug that our promotional ice-scrapers became the ‘must have’ accessory of the Show!
If you are visiting our website for the first time after stopping by our stand, welcome! We enjoyed talking to you and other visitors, it certainly distracted us from the sub-zero temperatures! We hope that our website gives you an initial flavour of what we can do, and most importantly the care and attention of how we do it. When you have a print or design project in mind, please give us a ring, we look forward to getting to know you and your business, contact our team on 01472 851091 or submit an enquiry through the website menu.

Promotional solutions all wrapped up
Posted by Jacqui VearAs we pride ourselves on the promise that if it can be printed, Systematic can supply it, our team were only too happy to respond to a request from local Construction Group LINDUM, to ensure that their order for bespoke bears would be ready and delivered in time for their staff Christmas celebration! As you can see, the project has seen our team seemingly work like Santa's little helpers!
It has been a busy few weeks as businesses nationwide have used the festive season as a good excuse to thank their employees, clients and suppliers with a gift that incorporates their company logo. The warehouses at Systematic HQ have been filling up with everything from 2013 calendars and desk pads to branded travel mugs, USB people and even personalised bottles of wine!
So don't settle for the 'bear necessities' in your next marketing venture, as creative solutions provide a great return on investment!

Flying High for Charity
Posted by Sharon CarltonAs Christmas time approaches, every member of staff at Systematic is invited to choose a charity that is personal to them, to which Systematic then donate £100. This year 3 members of staff, Sharon Carlton, Paul Bingham and Jacqui Vear chose The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance for their support. This vital resource is a dedicated medical air service which first began operating in April 1994. Every year it flies approximately 1000 missions and is reliant upon charitable support to keep flying. Based at RAF Waddington, the helicopter is unaffected by such problems as road congestion and road works allowing it to reach any destination in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire within 19 minutes.
Anne & Geoff Walker of Middle Rasen collected the cheque from Systematic Print Management’s premises in Caistor on behalf of the charity. http://www.ambucopter.org.uk/

The crème-de-la-crème of Systematic!
Posted by Jacqui VearAs you would expect, the Systematic Team were keen to support all of the good causes linked to the Children in Need appeal. Being creative types, we took our ideas one step further than dressing down for the day and baking cupcakes!
When the team heard Chris thinking out loud, about a fundraising idea involving squirty cream, there was really no going back! Already sporting a Movember moustache, Chris bravely endured the inevitable and convinced Business Development Manager Paul to join in too!
The team raised £165 through their Friday Fun. If we’ve inspired you to get around to making a donation to these very worthy causes, just click here to donate online!

The Great Systematic Bake Off
Posted by Sharon CarltonDriven on by the extremely popular BBC2 programme ‘The Great British Bake Off’ Systematic staff yet again vied for the coveted prize of ‘star baker’.
The letter ‘C’ was chosen as a theme for the products to be made and a wide variety of entrants appeared on the kitchen table early this morning.
Cheese Scones
Choc Chip Cookies
Clotted Cream Cake
Carrot Cake
Crumbly Scones (with Jam and Clotted cream)
Cappuccino Cake Bar
The 2 judges, Ruth and Katie (I’m not sure which one is most like Mary Berry) deliberated and cogitated hard and long, but the only decision they could make was that they both had different favourites! So, congratulations to Jacqui (Carrot Cake) and Sharon (Cappuccino Cake Bars) for impressing the judges, and to Chris for second place with his cookies. Well done to everyone else who took part for making it such a closely fought contest.

Stamp out high mailing costs
Posted by Jacqui VearAs businesses continue to feel the economic pinch, many are revisiting internal processes to see if efficiencies can be made. We can certainly help as our mission is to save you time and money!
With this in mind, we are helping an increasing number of clients to outsource their mailings and are currently issuing over 100,000 letters a month, from invoices and statements to newsletters and marketing approaches.
There are opportunities for cost savings at the point items are printed, when they are put in some form of envelope and when they are franked! You don’t need to have many more than 100 items to mail before you can start enjoying some economies of scale and stop arguing about who is stuffing envelopes!
With the assurances of data cleansing, secure information handling and delivery by your familiar Royal Mail delivery team, tell Paul about your next project to see how we can help you stamp down a few big invoices!

Smiles with our team, 365 days a year
Posted by Jacqui VearThis may be news to you, or our reputation linked to our annual calendar may precede this story! Either way, we can confirm that as the countdown to 2013 is underway, production of our very personal annual calendar is in full-swing with our team amongst wardrobes and backdrops worthy of any pantomime!
Our clients have previously been entertained by the Systematic take on album covers and films, but this year the theme can exclusively be unveiled as, drum roll… UK television shows, past and present. Our premises are a substantial 8,500 square feet, but not quite a production studio! The creative magic lies with our Studio, who use computer programmes to create something so close to the original image that the end results certainly make people do a double-take!
Get in touch if you would like to ensure that a complimentary copy of the 2013 Calendar is delivered to your door in December, by a team member who should be wearing their normal work attire!

Say no to dull PDFs!
Posted by Joe ArcherPDFs are possibly the most common format for producing electronic documents, almost any device can view them and they look the same, regardless of screen size or operating system.
They are a little flat though aren't they? Well not any more! Systematic can now turn your PDF catalogue or brochure into a rich, interactive, animated document complete with turning pages, audio and even video. It will even work on your tablet or mobile phone!
You can see an example of how these documents look and work if you click here, or give us a call to arrange a demonstration.

Thank You Sally
Posted by Sharon RobeyWe would like to say a huge thank you to Sally Plume who has retired after working at Systematic for the past 27 years. Many of you will know or have spoken to Sally over the years. She ran the Accounts Department and we owe her a debt of thanks for her hard work and dedication to the Company. She always gave her utmost attention to the role and kept the highest of standards in the work she did.
She had a great send off at the Dovedale Hotel, and, on her final afternoon, in true Systematic style, we had afternoon tea and cakes brought in by her colleagues.
We wish Sally and her husband Mike all the very best in their retirement and hope to see them around Caistor.

Sad News
Posted by Systematic PrintIt is with great sadness that we announce that Angela Lister passed away on the 5th August.
Angela worked at Systematic almost from the very first day that the Company was established back in April 1975. She worked here for 27 years until retiring in 2002. She was our receptionist and as such was usually the first point of contact for customers and suppliers ringing and visiting. She greeted everyone alike with a smile and a warm welcome and became firm friends with many of our customers, suppliers and staff and kept in touch with many of them after she retired.
During her time here she made a huge impact and we will miss her a lot. Our heartfelt sympathy go to her husband, Pete, daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Mark.

Lincolnshire Show 2012 - What a fantastic show, even the weather couldn't spoil it for us!
Posted by Paul BinghamLincolnshire Show 2012
Our Golden Tickets were a huge success at the Lincolnshire Show this year, the Wednesday saw over 600 people pass through our prize booth with them all receiving a gift. Thursday’s visitors were a little less at around 400 due to the weather, but both days saw a record level of enquiries ranging from business/loyalty cards, through to colour leaflets and even some printed tea towels.
Four lucky people received the top prize of an I-pod with others receiving an LED torch, Aqua-skin, Silicone Wrist Watch, LED Ice-cube or Thermal Mug. The visitors really couldn’t believe that every Golden Ticket was a winner!
If you received a Golden Ticket in the post or from your Account Manager, it isn’t too late to email the code to us to check and see what you’ve won! There are still some I-pods to be won so don’t delay.
Wednesday was lovely and sunny with a welcome breeze and everyone was upbeat as it was the first day. The Showground experienced a record number of visitors; we were certainly busier than previous years. Thursday was a different story though and we experienced torrential rain from about 7:30am for the majority of the day and the grass areas soon turned to a mud bath!
Despite all this, it was still a great day and just proved the determined British spirit cannot be dampened no matter what the weather!
We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to visit our stand and enter the Prize Booth whilst looking around the marquee at our products and services.

Systematic's MD, Chris Robey (left), is pictured with the Centre's Directors handing over a £300 cheque to sponsor the floral displays at the front of the Centre for the next three years. Chris stated " We warmly congratulate everyone connected with the centre for such a successful first year. Sustainable Schools Showcase – 21st March 2012
Posted by Paul BinghamWe were fortunate enough to be exhibiting at the East Midlands Sustainable Schools Showcase on 21st March.
It was held at The Epic Centre located within the Lincolnshire Show Ground, it was the perfect venue for a sustainable event. The event was aimed at all school staff, governors and parent associations, as well as students on school councils and eco-committees.
The centre was packed with exhibitors showcasing their products covering everything and anything to help them become a sustainable school.
It didn’t take long for the word to spread that we were offering an excellent range of eco and recycled promotional gifts.
Children and teachers were extremely interested to hear about the FSC and recycled materials used in everyday printed literature, they didn’t realise there was such a diverse range of different stocks readily available.
The children were surprised at what could be made from all the plastics and materials they recycle. This included;
• Ad-Loops made from recycled UK car tyres
• Frisbees made from recycled CD cases
• Coasters made from recycled vending cups
• Water bottles and Rules made from recycled plastic packaging
• Pencils made from recycled newspapers
• Pens and Ice Scrapers made from recycled plastic
But by far the most popular item was the Bookmark, this had a removable section that could be planted in some soil and would grow in to some lovely wild flowers. The seeds are actually within the paper and germinate when planted. The Bookmark also contained some very interesting facts and figures relating to recycled and FSC papers.
If you would like to receive further information about our Environmentally friendly range of Promotional gifts or prices for your printed stationery produced on FCS or recycled materials, please use our contact form or call 07714 999204.

Another hotly contested cookery competition...
Posted by Sharon CarltonThose who found the kitchen too hot last time, couldn’t face the heat this time round and pulled out so we only had 2 entrants, Chris and Sharon Robey with 3 entries between them!…lots at stake for the judges…one competitor who does the reviews, the other pays the salaries, I think safest territory would be to say it was a draw!
A choice of light and deliciously cheesy cheese scones with a lovely chewy cheesy top presented in the style of a spring flower, next we tasted savoury cheese and ham muffins, light, moist and tasty – very much like eating a sandwich and presented in a tower style and finally we had light, crispy and deliciously cheesy(!) cheese straws with a very individual style of presentation.
The judges deliberated long and hard over their decision, but finally awarded 1st please to the muffins, a close 2nd to the cheese straws and 3rd to the cheese scones.
Well done to the participants, its really encouraging to see people enjoying their baking, some of them for the first time!

Farewell, Adieu…
Posted by Sharon RobeyAfter 27 and 13 years respectively Mike Broster and Ann Love have ridden off into the sunset to enjoy their well earned retirements.
Mike has been a Territory Manager with us since 1984 and seen many changes in the print industry.
We know he has always been highly thought of by his customers, colleagues and suppliers alike and gained a loyal customer base through his good humour and integrity.
In our latest newsletter Mike gave an insight into how things have changed, in particular how the world has sped up.
Ann came on a temporary contract to cover Tracey Brown’s maternity leave in 1998 and never left! She worked in the accounts department and with her sharp wit and keen eye has always had the highest standards and attention to detail.
You may have laughed at some of Sister Matic’s musings in the newsletters we send out, without realising Ann’s pen was behind them.
We had a very enjoyable retirement lunch at the Settlement in Caistor and Chris Robey, the MD, thanked them for their huge contribution to Systematic and wished them both well on behalf of all the staff.
Both Mike and Ann lead very busy lives so we can’t see them twiddling their fingers for long – they’ll both wonder how they managed to fit Systematic into their day.
Click on http://newsletter.systematicprint.com to read what Mike had to say and see a few snaps of how he hasn’t aged over the years. You will also find Sister Matic’s latest observations on life.

Trent Valley Academy
Posted by Paul BinghamWe were delighted when Trent Valley Academy approached Systematic to redesign and produce their new Prospectus and supporting stationery. Our brief was to produce a vibrant and inviting new design to encompass everything that TVA stands for.
Environmental implications were considered, as a result, the whole suite of printed stationery has been produced of FSC materials that are 100% recycled.
The whole project ran extremely efficiently and was delivered ahead of schedule to be unveiled at the parent and carer evening where it was well received.
“Nothing was too much trouble and there was great attention to detail. We feel that the new image, which Systematic helped us to establish, better reflects who we are and what we stand for” – Wendy Carrick (Principal of Trent Valley Academy)
“We were extremely impressed with the service provided by Systematic. The design and artwork exceeded our expectations. The new Trent Valley Academy Prospectus has been widely admired by Governors, teaching staff, students and parents” – John Cawdell (Director of Business and Resources)

A wonderful buffet was provided by Cornhill Deli in Caistor and Road Runner Discos made the evening go with a swing with their brilliant choice in music supplemented by not so brilliant singing from us on the karaoke!!
There were a few sore heads the next day but worth it for such a great evening.

Systematic seal nationwide Print Management contract
Posted by Chris RobeyLocal Royal Warrant holders, Systematic Print Management of Caistor, are
pleased to announce a nationwide print management contract with
recycling and resource management company, SITA UK, which will see
Systematic deliver print to SITA UK sites throughout the UK, in a
deal which could be worth over £1 million in the next 3
years.
Managing Director,
Chris Robey, said "Whilst we have been a preferred supplier to SITA
UK for almost 10 years, this is the first time that we have
formalised our agreement. Credit for the success must go to everyone
at Systematic for setting such high standards, but especially to SITA
UK Account Manager, Elaine Blastland and SITA UK Support, Tracey
Brown".
Consistently high
service and quality levels, pricing and technology were major factors
in the success. Not only can SITA UK users order online from their
own catalogue, but the data is then automatically updated to the SITA
UK system, making the process far more stream-lined for the
company.
SITA UK's Senior
Procurement Officer, Mike Weaver, said: "SITA UK has a
long-standing relationship with Systematic Print Management and this
is now reflected in a contract between our two companies. SITA UK is
actively streamlining its ordering processes and the new bespoke
electronic ordering system provided by Systematic enables us to do
this."

because most people were still in bed) and landed at the Ricoh Arena
as the doors opened.
This year’s
exhibition saw more exhibitors showcasing their products, meeting
existing and new suppliers for all kinds of Promotional Products and
Corporate Gifts. We saw every conceivable product you could think of
(and a few more) that could be personalised and used to promote your
business.
Manufacturers have now
realised that there is a huge area of the market that is only looking
for small volumes and they have adapted their manufacturing and
printing process to accommodate this. Ceramic Mugs printed full
colour can now be cost effective from as little as 20 units, whilst
the ever popular USB Memory Stick can be personalised from 50 units
upwards.
Whatever your
requirement (even if you think it can’t be done) just ask
Systematic or visit our website http://promo.systematicprint.com
which has over 35,000 different items to choose from.
If it can be
printed, we can supply it!

ISO 9001 and 14001 Annual Audit
Posted by Sharon RobeyWe are delighted to say
that we had our annual Quality and Environmental Audit two weeks ago
and passed with flying colours.
We had no
non-conformances and a conclusion that our “system operates very
well”.
We pride ourselves on
providing customers with the highest quality service and products we
can with a clear and definite commitment to providing that within a
sound environmental framework and were delighted to have had our
systems scrutinised and considered to be robust and effective.

Location, Location, Location!
Posted by Paul BinghamSystematic exhibited
again this year at the LAMMA Agricultural Show. After last year’s
bone chilling experience when we exhibited in one of the outdoor
marquees, we requested to be within one of the permanent exhibition
halls. This year was far busier, with a constant supply of people
visiting our stand to ask questions, collect samples and request
quotations.
Enquiries ranged from
the usual Business Cards and every day printed stationery, through to
Personalised Bottled Water and even printed Egg Boxes, certainly
testing our testimonial “if it can be printed, we can supply it”.
We had a great deal of
interest from people who were in the process of setting up a new
business. They found our ‘New Business Start Up Package’
(www.321liftoff.co.uk) very
competitive, with many asking for additional information and meetings
with us after the show.
I would like to thank
everyone who visited our stand, and made the show a great success.

321 Lift Off!
Posted by Sharon RobeySystematic was set up in April 1975 by Nick Robey as a sole trader and has grown into the Company it is today.
We know what it’s like to set up from scratch, build up a good reputation, work hard to stay ahead in a competitive industry and trade through tough times.
In the current difficult economic situation, we want to do our bit to help new start-up companies, in the hope that they will grow and flourish in the way Systematic has done, and become a driving force for the UK economy.
To that end we have set up 321 Lift Off to offer fixed price packages to help new businesses get off the ground. We will design a corporate identity, print core stationery with that identity and create a website. What better start could a new business have.
Go to www.321liftoff.com for more information or speak to Paul Bingham

Snowbusiness !!
Posted by Joe ArcherWhat a week! We’ve
never seen so much snow as the amount that fell last week.
Most people left early on Tuesday to get home before the weather really
closed in except for Helen who tried and tried but couldn’t get out
of Caistor so ending up staying with Chris and Sharon.
We did get
her home on Wednesday by snow plough!
The snow on Wednesday
morning was over 2 foot deep and only those who live in Caistor made
it to work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It was a stunning sight
as the photos show.
We’re pleased to say
everyone has made it in today and the vans have been able to get out
and make deliveries and we’re working our socks off to get caught
up.
Let’s hope the skies remain clear for a while!

Blooming Bob…!
Posted by Joe ArcherWe have just been told
that for the sixth year running we have won the Caistor
in Bloom Commercial Category award.
As this
is mainly due to the dedication of our Warehouse Manager, Bob
Johnson, we affectionately title the award “Bob in Bloom”. Bob
is ably assisted by Ken Turnbull, who finds himself operating under
the strictest instructions when Bob is away.
We are
pleased to share the award this year with our esteemed neighbours,
Sealord. The question is... are they going to overtake us next year
or is this year just a temporary blip?

Guaranteed and Certified Green Electricity
Posted by Joe ArcherAll the electricity we use in our offices and warehouse is from 100% renewable sources bought through the green energy company Good Energy who we have been using since February 2008. They are the UK’s only electricity supplier whose fuel mix is 100% renewable.
They have recently informed us that the UK now has a new certification scheme for green electricity and they have qualified for it. This means that not only does all the electricity supplied have to be 100% renewable but that there must also be “an additional measurable carbon mitigation above and beyond the supply of 100% renewable electricity”*. Good Energy have advised us that they will achieve this by “investing in renewable heat projects which benefit communities”*.
Systematic are proud of having achieved accreditation to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 in 2009 and are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and increasing sustainability. Using Good Energy is one of the ways we can achieve that.
For more information about Good Energy go to www.goodenergy.co.uk

Making a positive impact...
Posted by Joe ArcherWe felt it was time to
encourage the Rooneys and Gerrards of the future by sponsoring some

Primary School. Pictured here is MD Chris Robey with members of the
football squad in the new kit.
The kit will be used
for football, hockey and any other team sports the school participate
in. Making this donation goes to the heart of our ethos of making a
positive impact on the community around us and we are delighted to
support the school.
Let's hope some of
them might be playing for England by 2022!!

What a scorcher!!
Posted by Joe ArcherIt was lovely to see
everyone who came to see us at the Lincolnshire Show last week. For
the second year running the weather was beautiful and we supported
local brewer Tom Wood producing personalised labels for anyone who
bottled their own beer in his mobile bottling plant.
The event marked the
"formal" launch of our mybottle.co.uk operation, whereby we
personalise labels to go on beer, wine and champagne. For more
information please visit mybottle.co.uk .
We had a team there
both days and thoroughly enjoyed the chance to meet with our
customers outside of the office environment and the opportunity to
meet new businesses and show them what we can do. Chris Robey camped
over on the Wednesday night as he had done last year. He said it was
to guard the equipment but we think he just fancied having the roast
beef and a pint of tom wood's in the stockmen's tent!
If you didn't get the
chance to meet us and would like to know more about what we can do
for your business then please give us a call and we would be
delighted to meet with you at your convenience.

All Systems Green!
Posted by Systematic PrintWe are pleased to announce that we have been certified to the International Environmental Standard ISO14001 at the first attempt, reflecting our serious commitment to environmental protection and corporate responsibility.
Managing Director, Chris Robey, stated, "As with our Quality System, we are determined to ensure that we implement a series of objectives that will make a positive impact for our customers and also the wider environment. Many of the practices and procedures that have been approved have been in place for years, but we felt that this was the right time to have them independently assessed".
We have considered five key areas: Energy and resource usage, waste management, transport, supplier assessment and, finally, knowledge and training.
We hope that our customers will be reassured of our commitment, and also tangibly benefit from the experience and knowledge that our Account Managers can bring to your own impact assessments.
